Marla Schevker has been a journalist since the summer of 2002. She is currently a specialized journalism graduate student at the University of Southern California, where she is studying politics and investigative reporting with an emphasis on multimedia and alternative forms of storytelling. Marla graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Northridge in May 2010 with her Bachelors of Arts in print journalism. She was also inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha honor society due to her academic excellence.

In addition to being a student, Marla is a professional journalist with several different types of news outlets.

With Uncharted Digital, she is developing her skills as a web reporter by learning to think outside of the box when it comes to website design and presentation as well as practicing effective social media skills.

At USC Student Affairs Publications, she writes feature stories and human interest pieces centered around the university that are published on the Student Affairs website.

As a Beverly Hills Courier reporter, Marla is gaining experience as a print journalist and has the opportunity to cover news and produce in-depth pieces on issues that affect her community.

Previously, Marla was a New Media intern for KPCC, where she writes articles and creates multimedia to go on their website. Prior to that, she was the  Online Editor for the California State University, Northridge newspaper Daily Sundial, where she consistently held leadership  positions including Editor in Chief.

Marla is passionate about many kinds of journalism including news coverage and human interest pieces. She strongly believes in social media and multimedia as effective tools to engage people with the news and also understands there is nothing like a strong article paired with a picture to get the news out.
