Song of 12/03/2010: Hannukah Song by Adam Sandler. What kind of Hannukah would it be if we didn’t take a moment to sit and laugh at ourselves. Oh Man. Thank you Adam Sandler for doing all the dirty work. HAPPY HANNUKAH EVERYONE!! :)

City Lights from my G6

Song of 12/02/2010: City Lights from My G6 by Mover Shaker. No video today. Instead I’m going to give a shoutout to Mover Shaker who friended me on tumblr today. In my experience, mashups are pretty hard to do. I don’t know personally anyone who can do them well (including myself, although I left my DJing days behind a looong time ago). Now maybe I know really crappy DJ’s but I can add one to the list of talented DJ’s. This is a song I can imagine being played in clubs, bass booming this song would actually be better than on my lowly computer speakers. While normally repetition drives me crazy, it really works for this song. I love that it’s for the most part in patterns of three. (Supersitious me finds it important but audible me finds it auditorily pleasing). I am definitely going to be downloading this CD when I get home. It’s definitely not quiet time music, but it’s really good. Check it out!

PS: I can’t seem to get the audio player to work so please go to the link and listen. :) I know it’s an extra step but it’s worth it.

Suddenly, suddenly I don’t feel so insecure

Song of 12/01/2010: The Hell Song by Sum 41. Now time for an oldie but goodie. Any one who can still play with dolls when they are making their second big CD (in 2002) should be idolized and revered. This music video makes me laugh. Well, I guess it wasn’t so much a laugh as it was a snicker, especially when the dolls party was getting broken up by the cops.. DOLL COPS! I guess the big point to all of this is at this age, these guys could act this way and do all of these things because that is age appropriate, I guess in a sense they didn’t know much better. That’s what makes this cute. It’s naive enough to be something they threw together in one evening because they were bored. I think it especially works with a song about becoming self-aware and finding your path through life. It’s.. a music video with naked barbies and kens. See how many celebrity dolls you can spot, there are quite a few. Thank you Sum 41 for being a silly in my otherwise stressful day.

Song of 11/29/2010: Blow Away by A Fine Frenzy. We saw A Fine Frenzy at the OK Go show the other night. This was my first interaction with a Fine Frenzy and with Alison Sudol. I was thoroughly impressed. This woman is raw and honest with her lyrics and incredibly an incredibly talented singer and pianist. She’s beautiful, but in a way that it seems coincidental that all of these things could be happening around her at the time same. She’s a role model with songs like Blow Away. This song is about a timid and shy girl who learns how to spread her wings and fly. I want to be coherent but I’ve been sitting, staring at the computer screen for a while and the words for why I like this song and why I like this band aren’t coming out. It’s frustrating. When I started this blog, it was an attempt to make my music writing better. Now, I pretty apparently just suck. Words to describe this song: smooth, clear, range, calm, inspiring. I think that’s what I like best about this song, it’s inspiring.

Song of 11/28/2010: Michael by Franz Ferdinand. Last night I saw ok go and a few opening bands with nick at club nokia. It was ok. I’ll give you a full report tomorrow when I’m not completely exhausted. In the meantime I want to share a song that reminds me of the beatles. In the way they dress, in the way they carry themselves. They sound like themselves but are cute in a old fashioned kind of way. I like this song is a romance song male on male. It’s sweet and apparently.. Michael is sexy!

Song of 11/27/2010: holiday by green day. This song was playing on the radio in Aero today. I hung out and learned how to play a card game called dominions and worked on my model for war machine. It’s a fun world that I don’t know too much about. :) this song kind of fits that idea. My brain is on holiday and I’m doing things that i haven’t done which is in essence like a vacation. That’s my correlation for today and it makes me giggle.

Song of 11/24/2010: Coffee Shop Soundtrack by All Time Low.

Let me start this post off by first saying: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! :D

I really like this song because it reads like a poem not like a lyric. If you look at the lyrics, the way they seem to be written everywhere, it’s actually pretty interesting the way they did it. In poetry, you are supposed to continue reading to the punctuation mark not stop at the end of the line. Many, many people read poetry wrong but punctuation is a key indicator in how it is supposed to sound. Spacing and timing are everything. The other thing I really like about this song (other than the things I’ve already stated I like about all time low) is that you’re not entirely sure of what the next lyric is going to be. It all makes sense but in a non-anticipatory kind of way. Most songs lead exactly where you think they will but this one throws in a few curve balls.

“When it call comes down to a sunrise on the eastside, will you be there to carry home… the remains of my wasted youth. This wasted time on you has got me shaking and waiting, shaking and waiting for something more.”

Song of 11/23/2010: Coin-Operated Boy by the Dresden Dolls. OMG I LOVE YOUTUBE! If it weren’t for youtube, I would have never known that OK Go is performing at Club Nokia on Saturday night and I would have never said, hey nick you’re the only other person I know who likes OK Go as much as I do and then we wouldn’t be getting tickets to go. OMG so excited. Anyways that has nothing to do with the song of today. Today’s song is mostly just a childhood memory. I don’t know why we started listening to this song but this was a song we were OBSESSED with in 11th grade. It was back when all of the JROTC girls used to have sleepovers and hang out and we would randomly sing this song because it made us giggle. Sometimes it’s nice to remember times like that, when I could let loose and just laugh like nothing else mattered. I’m not saying the Dresden Dolls are immature by any means, because I think this song, like many of their others songs, are full of innuendos and double entendres, etc that are clearly highly intelligent. But it brought out a side of me I kind of miss. This song is bouncy and sexy and silly and it’s kind of an awesome song to have learned while i was learning about myself. I guess I still am learning about myself. And truly, I don’t want a coin-operated boy.
