song of 12/17/2010: The Ground Folds by Senses Fail. I’m feeling slightly… I don’t know. The major word to come to mind is stressed but this song is really sad so maybe I’m a little sad from all the stress. *sigh*. This song is really sad. It’s acoustic. This is apparently not a very good sounding version but the song is overall… pretty. and sad. I guess I’m just really grateful it’s the weekend. Sorry for the nonsensical words all put in a row. Here’s hoping to find hope.
Song of 12/13/2010: Angels We Have Heard On High by the Bowen Beer Bottle Band. So I know a few days ago I said anyone with holiday cheer could go and suck it. But this is AWESOME. Beer Bottle music. It’s ingenius. Of course I’d like it better if they were playing 99 bottles of beeron the wall. But this is really great of it’s own right. A for creativity and A for talent (or as much as someone could have playing the beer bottles). Well done.
Song of 12/10/2010:Hibi no neiro by Sour. So I can’t seem to find the translation for this video but it is one of the most epic things I have ever seen. This whole video was shot by webcam viewed in the 2010 disposable film festival. It is absolutely amazing and the end will make you smile. Even if you don’t know what the music is saying, the video shows a bunch of fans who care about each other and the band. GO WATCH IT!! trust me, you won’t be sorry.
Song of 12/09/2010: Clair de Lune by Debussy. This music video is reminiscent of the opening number in Fantasia. It’s beautiful and a wonderful way to experience classical music. It brings the song to life with movement and color in a way that your brain does automatically when you listen to it and close your eyes. It’s calming and absolutely wonderful. This makes me sad for personal reasons. But overall it’s not a music video, it’s an experience.
song of 11/26/2010: fuck you by cee lo green. My hands are cold and capitalizing is hard. sad but true. So first of all, I love the theme of this music video. It’s a cute little 50′s video which I find so completely endearing. My friend Jesus loves to sing this song and play it on his guitar, it sounds completely different from the real version but that’s how I heard about it in the first place. I like this song because I think it’s something on everyone’s mind (You can tell I got a little bit warmer because I’m correctly capitalizing! haha). When you get screwed over for something stupid, like this, it’s your first reaction. Fuck you if I”m not perfectly what you want me to be… Fuck you and fuck her too. I also like how this song takes a modern idea, like cussing at someone, and brings it out in an old-fashioned light (with the backup singers and the waltzy 3/4 timing). It’s just… fun. And I think you need that in a broken heart song. It helps… the old-timey bouncy fun. It’s bound to at least make you smile.
Song of 11/21/2010: dog days are over by Florence and the machines. I really liked this video. The song seemed similar to Regina Specktor. But the music video was quite epic. I think it’s creative and unique.
Song of 11/06/2010: American Jesus by Bad Religion. Happy day light savings time!! clocks went an hour back today. It has been an epic hour. I just got slapped in the face by my cat. anyways. There is no other reasoning behind this song other than I like it. I’m kind of in a mood and unable to think very clearly. It seems to be happening a lot lately. I guess music like this doesn’t help with clarity but it helps calm me down. I think it’s because I first heard this song when I was younger and I can associate that with it. Growing up is so complicated. I think another reason is that I like things that are smooth. It doesn’t have to be quiet (in fact I prefer when it isn’t) but I like songs that flow. This song has amazing vocals (especially for a rock song where he spends most of his time talking really fast, not rapping but close enough for rock). I also like this song because it’s very poignant. America might think it’s the best but we’re slowly learning that we have to stay competitive if we want to remain a superpower. It’s not just enough to want to be great, you’re actions have to lead you in the right direction. Cockiness does not make up for civility and grace. Just because you can be big and scary does not mean it’s the right way to handle things.
Song of 11/03/2010: Rocketeer by the Far East Movement ft Ryan Tedder. This is a really pretty song. I didn’t know what to expect when I started to listen to it, because I knew I’d heard of the Far East Movement but I didn’t remember how or why. Although it’s super corny positivity, it’s still a great song. This song is a great combination of hip hop and the sweet sound of Ryan Tedder. This song sounds like Black Eyed Peas from five years ago (before they got into dancing and partying, back when they had a message and actually made good sounding message). I know this band is relatively new so I hope they don’t sell out like any other bands (*ahem aforementioned band ahem*). Plus, in the music video they make a robot. How epic is that? There isn’t much I don’t like about this song. It’s short, sweet, positive and to the point. Plus the band is adorable.
Song of 10/31/2010: Monster Mash by Boris Picket & the Cryptkickers. Happy Halloween everyone! I hope that everyone is having a safe and fun night. Nick and I are having a genre-of-movie-that-would-work-as-a-Halloween-Costume marathon and so far I’ve seen a lot of interesting stuff. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days (and found what I think to be an epically awesome video with Frankenstein type stuff). So, everybody do the monster mash and enjoy your halloween!
Song of 10/26/2010: wonderful by everclear. I’m running out of time tonight. But here is a song about divorce, attempting to grow up and hiding your true feelings. Yay school board meeting.
