Song of 11/06/2010: American Jesus by Bad Religion. Happy day light savings time!! clocks went an hour back today. It has been an epic hour. I just got slapped in the face by my cat. anyways. There is no other reasoning behind this song other than I like it. I’m kind of in a mood and unable to think very clearly. It seems to be happening a lot lately. I guess music like this doesn’t help with clarity but it helps calm me down. I think it’s because I first heard this song when I was younger and I can associate that with it. Growing up is so complicated. I think another reason is that I like things that are smooth. It doesn’t have to be quiet (in fact I prefer when it isn’t) but I like songs that flow. This song has amazing vocals (especially for a rock song where he spends most of his time talking really fast, not rapping but close enough for rock). I also like this song because it’s very poignant. America might think it’s the best but we’re slowly learning that we have to stay competitive if we want to remain a superpower. It’s not just enough to want to be great, you’re actions have to lead you in the right direction. Cockiness does not make up for civility and grace. Just because you can be big and scary does not mean it’s the right way to handle things.

Song of 11/03/2010: Rocketeer by the Far East Movement ft Ryan Tedder. This is a really pretty song. I didn’t know what to expect when I started to listen to it, because I knew I’d heard of the Far East Movement but I didn’t remember how or why. Although it’s super corny positivity, it’s still a great song. This song is a great combination of hip hop and the sweet sound of Ryan Tedder. This song sounds like Black Eyed Peas from five years ago (before they got into dancing and partying, back when they had a message and actually made good sounding message). I know this band is relatively new so I hope they don’t sell out like any other bands (*ahem aforementioned band ahem*). Plus, in the music video they make a robot. How epic is that? There isn’t much I don’t like about this song. It’s short, sweet, positive and to the point. Plus the band is adorable.

Song of 10/31/2010: Monster Mash by Boris Picket & the Cryptkickers. Happy Halloween everyone! I hope that everyone is having a safe and fun night. Nick and I are having a genre-of-movie-that-would-work-as-a-Halloween-Costume marathon :D and so far I’ve seen a lot of interesting stuff. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days (and found what I think to be an epically awesome video with Frankenstein type stuff). So, everybody do the monster mash and enjoy your halloween!

Song of 10/17/2010: anyone else but you sung by Michael cera and Ellen page. So I know this is a song by the moldy peaches but I’m having major technical difficulties (trying to blog from my phone and my phone is being stupid) and so this is the version you get. I was playing word association today and that is how we got to this song. I think it’s fun sometimes to let your mind wander and see what it can find. It’s not always obvious where you will go but sometimes it’s the journey and not the destination. :)

And the sun will set for you

Song of 10/16/2010: Shadow of the Day by Linkin Park. In Nick’s car we listen to the radio (because his radio works unlike mine who went through an unfortunate car wash incident) and this song came on the radio. The good thing about this song is that it isn’t terrible. It has interesting lyrics, great instrumentals, it seems like a quality song. The sad thing is that it’s Linkin Park. I know I’ve said before how I feel about Linkin Park. I haven’t really listened to any of their new stuff but I heard it’s kind of a throw back to the days of ole.. :P I think this song is a good rock song but for linkin park it really sucks. They are about combining different genres to make something new and interesting and this song sounds like everything else out there. It’s relatively disappointing but it’ll do for the sake of interest. It’s good, if you forget who its by. That’s all there is to say about that.

Song of 10/11/2010: adorable by artist v poets. I heard this song from a sampler cd I got over the summer. It was surprising and cute. I’m at a meeting today and my wordpress app is being a pain so im going to need to keep this short. But this song is a cute pop-py thing. It sounds kind of like a mix between the click five and the summer set so it doesn’t seem original but it’s fun to listen to all the same. It was the only song that stuck out from the sampler cd. If only I could remember which one… :p

Children waiting for the day they feel good, Happy birthday

Song of 10/04/2010: Mad World by Tears for Fears. So today is the big day that I turned 22. I worked all day, which is a true sign that I’m becoming a grown up. It wasn’t the worst birthday I’ve ever had but it also wasn’t the greatest. This past weekend was really wonderful. But it’s human nature to think of the bad things and let them weigh out in your mind so I’m stuck thinking about today no matter how hard I’m trying to hold onto the fun. I love this song, I didn’t just pick it because it had Happy Birthday in it. The first time I ever heard it was when I watched Donnie Darko and this song is truly fitting. It’s about the awkwardness of growing up and depression and confusion and a whirlwind of emotions that people feel, especially people who have a mental illness of some sort (sorry but Donnie was a little off.. in a way I can understand, but still) I think that being 22 is kind of mind warping. You spend all of your childhood waiting to grow up and when you get there, it’s kind of baffeling. It’s like the feeling I had when I graduated. I’ve worked so hard to get where I am, be the age that I am and it’s.. it’s almost disappointing how anticlimactic the world can be.

Song of 9/29/2010: He Said She Said by Ashley Tisdale. (ignore the ending of the video where Ashley Tisdale does this weird interview thing with that high school musical guy). So I didn’t want to like this song. I didn’t like it the first six times I listened to it, I swear. But I’m working (almost done!) And now it’s caught on. At first it bothered me because she’s just another disney channel star trying to separate herself and give off the badass impression. But, after the sixth time it started to get catchy and kind of fun. I guess that’s the good thing about pop music.. it either makes you smile or drives you crazy. This song, for me, did both. The video is kind of silly. But, it’s one of those awards shows videos so I think its meant to be a little campy and funny. This song will be stuck in my head for a while and I just have one question after everything: WHAT HAPPENED TO GRAMMAR? (if you listen, she slurs her words together, talks fast and overall it’s just gramatically funny). Anyways, we don’t need no more that he said she said. :p
