I still hope that you will miss me when I’m gone

Song of 9/25/2010: last song by the all american rejects. This isn’t exactly the song I wanted for today. I’ve had Drive Away by aar stuck in my head for days now but I’m blogging from my phone and looking through YouTube is too much effort from my phone. This is a good song though. One weird thing about me is that emo music like aar’s first cd doesn’t make me depressed. I like all kinds of music, including sad music. When I’m really upset about something or really depressed in general, I have no desire to listen to music or sing along or anything. Weird, right? So this song may be sad but I love it for several reasons. I like that aar took a chance and was really whiny with their first major album. Its kind of nice to hear someone lay their heart out there and say things for the silenced masses (:p) but still, it’s always good to have songs to relate to emotions and although this cd was mocked, I still like it. Plus, it still shows off their talent, which I find important.

You can sit beside me when the world comes down

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Song of 5/10/10: Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down) by the All American Rejects. Today has been jam packed with action, adventure and awesomeness, except not really. I feel like I’m sleep typing.. I am so tired. I drove for at least four hours today (the lease signing and apartment showing got postponed in a weird way so it ended up happening but not at the time we were told) and now I’m just a total zombie. This song is a wonderful love song in a world crashing down kind of way. It reminds me of the romance that is the end of Fight Club, Edward Norton grabbing the hand of Helena Bonham Carter as the buildings around them explore, and I love it. If you listen to the lyrics: the world sucks and is falling apart, but here come sit beside me and we can fix it together. It’s us against the world baby, forever.

I wanna, I wanna, I wanna touch you

Song of 4/20/10: I wanna by the All American Rejects. I realize that today is 4/20 but because I am not a stoner at all I thought I would just share an annoying song I’ve had stuck in my head. This song is so damn repetitive that it may have helped with radio play but it gets on my nerves. Don’t get me wrong, I liked this CD. It wasn’t the All American Rejects I was used to but it was a great rock CD. Their show, which I saw back in December, was fun and full of energy. It’s just this song that gets on my nerves. Like I said, I attribute it to the repetitive nature of the lyrics but I don’t need Tyson Ritter’s cocky ego stuck in my head all day!

Move along like I know you do

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Song of the day: “Move Along” by the All American Rejects. Today has been an interesting day. I’m currently sitting in Councilmember Eric Garcettis office waiting to talk to him about a story I’m working on. I’m awkwardly sitting in the middle of a conversation while people chat. Today was kind of annoyingly stressful with interviews and traffic and another mild headache. I am not looking forward to trying to get home.. I don’t quite know how to go. Haha oh well. Maybe I can get to sunset and then take that to bundy to Montana to maybe pick up nick. That would be nice. Hmmmmmm we shall see. The song of today is my reminder to myself of how I need to carry on. I can move along because I have the strength inside me. This song is epic live. The energy that this song gives off is incredible to me. It is really an uplifting song. The kind of thing I need to hear and scream to when I’m upset or stressed or otherwise freaking out. As much as I love this American life, listening to it did not help my stress. This song is helpful and energetic and a complete release. I can move along.

Another check for the check list

I’m so sorry, my dearest blog, that I have been ignoring you lately. I can give you my excuses, tell you what I’ve been up to, but it still doesn’t make things right. I will tell you, however, that I have successfully completed my 19 units and the editorship at the Daily Sundial. Grades are yet to come, but I’m feeling pretty good about everything as a whole. All I ask is that you forgive me, dear blog, and I promise that I will be better now that winter break is upon us. (side note: waiting for grades is frustrating..but oh I am going to miss academia) See, I’m here now. I put you on my check list (in between cleaning the kitchen and picking up the boyfriend) and I am coming back to you. I’m here for good.

Anyways, I have had a thought and I have an announcement.

Thought: Has anyone else noticed the feud between AT&T and Verizon. Apparently, they both sued each other for making the other look bad in commercials and now you can’t watch TV at all without seeing Luke Wilson talking about how awesome AT&T is or flinging a postcard on a giant, fake map. Don’t get me wrong, I understand it. Capitalism, blah, blah, competition, blah, blah, free-market economy, blah, blah. I’ll let you in on a little secret though: I love it. I love seeing the competition. Although right now it hasn’t quite affected their products (I’m an AT&T user.. Go iPhone! haha just kidding.. and I have yet to see a real improvement on their carrier service and I have friends using Verizon who have yet to see an improvement on their customer service) it is nonetheless bound to happen. Seeing the competition between the two shows that at least they are thinking about it. Now if only Boost Mobile or Spring could get themselves into the game. We’d all have something fun to watch.

How this ties into me: I was thinking about the competition between newspapers. And not just monetarily. Every organization in the industry has a slant. Some are incredibly obvious like Fox News and MSNBC but its everywhere. Now, with AT&T and Verizon, there are obvious slants to the commercials; its advertisement after all. AT&T wants you to think they are better and Verizon wants the same thing. Everyone can understand and recognize those biases, those commercials are trying to sell something. But, what happens when similar things begin to happen, that there are only two points of view in all newspapers. The thought is just frightening to me. But as we are all condensing and each journalist is responsible for so many parts of the story, it seems that we may already be heading in that direction. People don’t even think about looking for biases in the news most of the time. I mean yes, they can recognize that there are obvious slants, but people don’t go out of their way to understand how their news is being filtered. One person with a vendetta can ruin someones perspective on something by producing slanted news. yes, its the individuals responsibility to check out the stories they read but in the end who really does?

Anyways, that was just a thought. To be explored more at  later date I suppose.

My announcement: I am now officially writing for an online music magazine called greenshoelace (Greenshoelace.com) Check out my first story!

Anyways, its getting to be that time to pick up Nick but I hope the journey through my brain was worth the wait. Until next time.
