Song of 9/05/2010: A little less 16 candles, a little more touch me by Fall Out Boy. Ok, so several things about today’s music video. First of all: EPIC! I love how Fall Out Boy incorporates famous people from their label into their music videos (this is not the first or the last that the guys from Panic! are in). Second: it tells a funny story. Okay maybe it’s not haha funny, but it’s way better than twilight and I didn’t have to spend any money on it. Does anyone ever wonder why some people get famous and others don’t? Looking at this video made me wonder how Pete Wentz got all of the Fall Out Boy Fame and and Patrick Stump got some of the fame, and those two other guys… yah. I think that says it all. I just wonder, those two other guys aren’t less cute and they aren’t less talented, they just are the front man or the cute one. It’s sad, but every band has those stereotypes and there are always that have to be less popular. This video is like the where’s Waldo of music videos. See if you can spot you favorite artists Fall Out Boy affiliated bands, and the vampire drinking tea. If you have 6 minutes to spare, it’s totally worth it to watch this video. It’s interesting to think about vampires and see Pete Wentz as a vampire while hearing “I confess, I messed up..” It’s interesting to hear the song juxtaposed to the story, they make it fit really well. This is a nice, neat horror film wrapped into one cute little package. Plus, the song isn’t too terrible. I love From Under the Cork Tree.

I can be your John Cusack

Song of 9/02/10: Honorable Mention by Fall Out Boy. Happy 90210 day!! Right now a whole bunch of people are in Beverly Hills doing something fancy but tonight, more or less (and I’m only going to talk about the more) I got to do something I really enjoy: watch a John Cusack movie. We’re watching Better off Dead, which I’ve never seen before. When I looked John Cusack up on IMDB, the first line of his autobiography read, “John Cusack is, like most of his characters, an unconventional hero.” I really don’t know him personally but I have to say that his movies are really the off-the-wall hero and I love it. The romance movies are completely formulaic but there’s something comforting about seeing John Cusack and knowing no matter what he gets himself into, he’ll end up okay in the end. It gives me hope about life, that maybe we can all be like John Cusack and end up okay in the end. I don’t feel too much like writing right now but I’ll write more soon. Just know that at the end of the day, I can be your unconventional hero if you need, in the end I got an honorable mention, made a movie of my life staring you instead of me… I can be your John Cusack.”

I am an arms dealer fitting you with weapons in the form of words

Song of 8/02/10: This Ain’t a Scene by Fall Out Boy. Today was my first day at the Beverly Hills Weekly. It was incredibly to be able to be paid for doing what I want to be doing. It’s fun, overwhelming, enjoyable and terrifying all at the same time. I don’t feel like I’m living the dream quite yet because I don’t think it feels real. I think it’ll feel real when the first paper comes out and I see my name in print. When I’ve laid the first paper to bed and I wake up the next morning to see everything compiled and pretty in paper. It’s very exciting nonetheless. I’m on my way to having a career. Using my brain all day has made me sleepy and I love it. This video is kind of awesome. Not only is it a great song but the video has so many cameos, it’s quite epic and made me laugh. I like the idea of words being weapons and the universe being an arms race. Words are my weapon of choice by far.

One more night, one more time

song of 7/03/10: Thnks fr th Mmrs by Fall Out Boy. So today I’m driving down the 5 stuck in 4th of July traffic and this song comes on my iPod. I like this song because it utilizes violins in rock. It makes the song feel more dramatic because it should be. It’s a song all about saying goodbye. It’s not necessarily a hint for what’s going on in my life, I’m not saying goodbye to anyone I care about. But it’s still nice. It’s… Angry. Anyways I’m not at my computer and my phone is being slow and annoying so that’s all for tonight. But thanks for the memories

song of 6/02/10: Thriller by Fall Out Boy. I didn’t really like this song at first. I didn’t really like this album at first. It’s so different from From Under the Cork Tree and Take This to Your Grave. But some of the songs have begun to grow on me and this one is just the latest in a string to be one that I am enjoying. I like that it’s a song about becoming famous and what that must seem like, that one day they were just a random punk rock alternative band and then all of a sudden they were HUGE. So crazy. I remember seeing them perform live when From Under the Cork Tree came out, with From First to Last and All American Rejects, and they were so good and seemed so honest. I wonder what they’re like now though. If they are still those adorable humble guys or if owning a popular record label and dating Ashley Simpson has changed them into super star nightmares. I don’t know. But this song gives me hope that they are still those guys I saw.“Last summer we took threes across the board But by fall we were a cover story ‘now in stores’ Make us poster boys for your scene. But we are not making an acceptance speech.”

Drop a heart, Break a name

Song of 5/01/10: Sugar We’re Going Down by Fall Out Boy. So I’m kind of mad. I can’t find the Fall Out Boy Sugar We’re Going Down version that has the antler boy. It was a really cute video and I’m super pissed I can’t find it, or at least I would be if my energy level wasn’t at a total zero. Things are starting to work out. Today we found an apartment that everyone could agree on (Me, Roxy and both sets of parents) and I have a second interview set up for Tuesday. Hopefully things will continue going well but we shall see. I’m not going to say anything and jinx it, I’m just going to work hard and keep my fingers crossed. Today’s song is mostly because I’m wearing my Fall Out Boy Shirt, it’s a black tank with pink writing that says “drop a heart break a name.”  I used to have a different Fall Out Boy shirt that had teeth with braces on it and said Fall Out Boy, but I seem to have misplaced that in the multiple times that I have moved since I started college. Oh Well. Today has been a long day of apartment hunting, hence the lack of imagination on the song, but overall it’s been successful and maybe this song is good luck (even if I can’t find the video I originally wanted, which if anyone knows of it and could send it to me, that would be great). Ok. I really can’t find it but this video isn’t crappy. It’s just not what I wanted. I’m sorry.

5/02/10 edit: Here is the video I wanted to show. Thank you Laura Lutrell!!

By the way. Here is another video for Ok Go’s This Too Shall Pass, which is way more epic than the first one. Enjoy!
