These crimes of illusion, are fooling us all

Song of 8/18/2010: Only You by Portishead. I love Portishead. The trippy, slow, beautiful music is kind of fitting for my mood right now. Someone suggested I listen to this song and I really like it. The combination of scratching records, big brass and Beth Gibbons’s vocals really make it unique and interesting for me to listen to. Right now I’m being a bit crazy, irrational and feminine so I’m gonna go try to get some sleep. But listen to this song if you a) like portishead or b) are interested in listening to something kind of different from anything else you’ve ever heard.

Wandering Stars

Song of 1/28/10: Wandering Star by Portishead. Warning: this post is going to be brief. My feet hurt and I’m hungry and Nick isn’t feeling good and there is a lot to do tonight so it’s going to be brief but I still wanted to post. Today I went to my first press conference for KPCC for a story I am working on about LA efforts to help Haiti. Its pretty cool everything that everyone is doing and today I watched 72 firefighters from the Urban Search and Rescue team come home from a 14 day stint in Haiti. It was pretty epic even if it meant 5 hours of standing and working. The song of the day is the last song that I heard on the car ride home and my absolute favorite of Portishead’s songs. I love the way that this song makes you feel. It’s a sad song that literally makes you want to slow down and just appreciate the music and appreciate the sadness. This is one of the few female singers that I enjoy. It’s all completely beautiful.
