Song of 12/31/2010: 1999 by Prince AND May it Be by Enya. So first of all, I screwed up. Both in February and in December I used “Bad Day” by Something Corporate. It almost ruins the integrity of the project and I sincerely apologize. So to make it better I’m doing an additional song today. First of all, Happy New Year!! Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1999 and watch Lord of the Rings (the second and third one ) because that’s what we nerds do, stay home and party with each other. It’s going to be a peaceful, safe and fun night and I am grateful to be a part of it. I’m sad to say that my 365 days are over and this 365 project is completed. I can’t believe I actually did it. We’ll recap on this soon. In the meantime, have a safe and fun new year. See you on the other side.
Song of 12/29/2010: Hybrid Rainbow by The Pillows. Youtube chose this song today. I was on Youtube looking for a video to blog and this showed up, I must have accidentally clicked on it or something of the sort. Regardless, it was there and I watched it. It’s in Japanese except for a few phrases. This song makes me wish I understood Japanese. But more so, when you watch the music video (with the sound off) it looks like a world I would want to be in. I rarely watch music videos and think that is a place I could someday be, but that one definitely looked appealing and fun and inviting. That’s what’s noticeable about this to me. The video is fun and realistic and really welcoming. I don’t have to understand Japanese to get that.
Song of 12/29/2010: Without Me by Eminem. I cannot believe I haven’t blogged about this song sooner. This epic, beautiful, crass, funny song. The music video is more or less what Spiderman two and three should have been: short, sweet and to the point. Several things about this video that I don’t understand. One: Why the need for the outrageously huge hand gestures? and two: what is up with all of those crotch shots. at least by the end Dr Dre teaches Eminem how to be cool. Oh poor sad sidekick, you’ll never be as cool as your counterpart.
Song of 12/28/2010: Be my escape by Relient k. As we’re approaching the end of this project (wow, right?! never thought I’d make it this far), I thought I would bring back another one of my childhood favorites. Call me niave (“you’re niave).. but I didn’t realize this song was about god until way after the first time I heard it. It’s weird how religious songs, when done right, can be about a myriad of things including love. It actually makes bands like Relient K and P.O.D. more bareable. Maybe I’m fooling myself, but if I forget this song is about God, I can actually really enjoy it. Relient K is very talented. They definitely have that going for them. This god stuff almost turns me off, but like I said, call me niave.. . I’ll just pretend it doesn’t exist.
Song of 12/27/2010: Everywhere by Michelle Branch. So, so sleepy tonight. So I thought I would go back to a song from when I was young that I really liked. I love Michelle Branch because she’s not feminine power music but she’s strong and I like that. She’s also got a beautiful voice. Soo sleepy now so I”m going to go deal with that Good night.
Song of 12/26/2010: Merry Happy by Kate Nash. Kate Nash is another one of those singers who sounds like Regina Specktor. It’s a very feminine, bouncy song. I heard it on this TV show I started watching today, Community. It’s a funny show about people in a community college, which I like because I miss college. This song is one of those interesting sad break up songs put to a happy tune. It’s funny, not necessarily unique but cute nonetheless.
Song of 12/25/2010: it’s Christmas at ground zero by weird al. Christmas is about family, giving, and laughing. So here is something to laugh about. Be glad this isn’t your Christmas. merry Christmas everyone!
Song of 12/24/2010: Dead, Dead, Dead from South Park. Best Christmas Song Ever. It’s cheery and happy and all of those things you need while dealing with your family this holiday season. You’re. Welcome.
Song of 12/23/2010: Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. So, whenever my mind goes blank or I’m randomly humming or I am bored or feeling silly or pretty much any time I’m not thinking of another song, this song is playing quietly in my head. I don’t know why, I guess I’ve always had a fascination and fear of submarines (I’m claustrophobic to the max) and so this song brings my joy and fear. Yes I am afraid of the yellow submarine but it also makes me giggle. It’s a great sing along, so try it sometime.
Song of 12/22/2010: The New Divide by Linkin Park. I’m sure you remember my Linkin Park rant so I won’t even begin to get in to it. The song is ok. It’s not great by any means. It’s ok. However, the video is epic. Before you watch it: apparently it’s a video from Transformers Three, although it’s not necessarily all the way clear but you’ll start to see transfomers and wonder. The things that they’ve done with color and movement in this video are very unique and although computer generated, it’s got a beatiful flow.
