Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead

Song of 9/04/2010: Secret by The Pierces. I had no idea this was a full-length song and not just a theme song. It’s the theme song for Pretty Little Liars (can someone please tell me the ending of the show so I don’t have to keep watching it?! k thanks!). I actually really like this song though. It’s the perfect amount of creepy voice and instruments for the idea behind the song. Plus, someone actually thought out the slideshow.. it’s not just random photos. That in itself is kind of cool. It’s a music video in photos (in the end it’s kind of stop motion). You have to watch it to see. Anyways, sorry to be short but gotta go do stuff. :)

Song of 9/03/2010: Just the Girl by the Click Five. Does anyone out in wordpress/tumblr land use a plugin to crosspost between wordpress and tumblr. The one I was recommended doesn’t work and I’m kind of sick of double posting. Or I can just stop posting in once place. Any thoughts? K thnx. :p I am ridiculously tired today. The only thing I can think of is that it’s the end of the week.. and it was another stressful week.. and other than that I think my brain wants to be done for a while. So I think I’m going to call it a night super early tonight and starting tomorrow use my three-day weekend productively (unless of course you want to hang out, you’re much more important than productivity… MUCH more important <3 hint. ahem. hint.) Anyways. This song has always felt a little juvenile to me. It's a really cute song about a tormented crush, but the way the female is behaving it's like she's a 6 year old boy. I'm just saying. The video is kind of cool, kind of. I had trouble watching it without thinking about all of the things the band is mimicking. It bothers me that someone commented on one of their other videos about how this band gives them hope for rock and roll. This is not rock and roll. This is pop. It's cute but there's no depth or soul. None. Not to say that all rock has soul. But rock, in my opinion, doesn't tend to have cute synthesizing piano going on. It's just to.. pop. It's still a good song though, if you take it at what it is, a cute pop ballad about another emo guy who just can't quite seem to get the girl.

I can be your John Cusack

Song of 9/02/10: Honorable Mention by Fall Out Boy. Happy 90210 day!! Right now a whole bunch of people are in Beverly Hills doing something fancy but tonight, more or less (and I’m only going to talk about the more) I got to do something I really enjoy: watch a John Cusack movie. We’re watching Better off Dead, which I’ve never seen before. When I looked John Cusack up on IMDB, the first line of his autobiography read, “John Cusack is, like most of his characters, an unconventional hero.” I really don’t know him personally but I have to say that his movies are really the off-the-wall hero and I love it. The romance movies are completely formulaic but there’s something comforting about seeing John Cusack and knowing no matter what he gets himself into, he’ll end up okay in the end. It gives me hope about life, that maybe we can all be like John Cusack and end up okay in the end. I don’t feel too much like writing right now but I’ll write more soon. Just know that at the end of the day, I can be your unconventional hero if you need, in the end I got an honorable mention, made a movie of my life staring you instead of me… I can be your John Cusack.”

And when I’m lonely in my darkest hour, you give me the power to sit and pretend

Song of 9/01/2010: Damn Regret by Red Jumpsuit Aparatus. Happy September!! I can’t believe it’s already September. I feel like so much has happened in the last… 9 months. It’s incredible to think the year is 3/4ths over. It’s completely weird to think about. So much has changed in the last 9 months. It’s.. I’m just kind of in shock that September is already here. I’m waiting for proofs right now so I thought I would drop in considerably earlier than normal. I chose this song because I was trying to do so last night and I couldn’t find it on my iphone. Bummer but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I like this song because it’s hopeful, sentimental and sad all at the same time (and is even a bit stalker-y in the end). I like that it makes me feel a grip of emotions (and a slight bit of concern) I’ve never been to a warped tour (in reference to the video) but I used to want to go a lot when my favorite bands were playing (back in the day.. haha). Although now it doesn’t excite me as much to go, I’m sure I’ll make it to another music festival at some point in the future. But definitely not Cochella. Anyways, I really need to listen to some of Red Jumpsuit Aparatius’ new stuff. If it’s anything like their old stuff, it should be pretty good! I’ll let you know what I think when I can get to it.

Damn regret, I’ll try to forget. Don’t worry about me, Cause I’m refined.

Song of 8/31/2010: Alejandro by lady gaga. I hate this song and I hate this video. I can tolerate lady gaga. She’s not my favorite but because Aurora loved her so much I listened and smiled. But this song really just sucked. It was long and the video was seriously just weird. I understand that she was trying to throwback to Madonna and other greats. But she failed. A song that long really needs to be interesting. And it’s not. It’s just.. Uncomfortable. In a.. I can’t believe you’re doing this kind of way. You don’t have to watch much of it but try the first minute or two and you’ll see what I’m saying. Just.. Bad.

I’ll just keep it to myself in the sun

Song of 8/30/2010: In the Sun by She & Him. So James told me about this band a while back and I was trying to figure out what I should blog about today and thought of it. I’m tired and this video is ridiculously cute. There is something absolutely adorable about Zooey Deschanel dancing around in the school girls uniform behind a guy she’s trying to get to notice her. It reminds me of an old pop music video with a splash of I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance thrown in. This is what I like to refer to as a feel good song. It makes you feel good. Tell me if you watch this video and don’t smile. I highly doubt it’s possible. Right now I’m watching Goodbye Lenin and have to focus because I don’t understand German. It’s a really good movie though, don’t let the subtitles scare you. Unless you’re not afraid of subtitles and German. Then it would be especially good for you.

It’s me and the moon, she said

Song of 8/29/2010: Me and the Moon by Something Corporate. So last night was the Something Corporate concert. It was amazing, to say the least. There is something absolutely fantastic about seeing a band you’ve loved for a good portion of your life perform the songs that have helped you through good times and bad. It’s an affirming feeling to hear all of the lines that have shaped your life and know that they mean as much to the person singing them as they do to you. There is something more fantastic about that band being incredible live. The energy the band has, the fact that pianist/lead singer andrew macmahon was so passionate that he needed two mikes for when he had to burst up from the piano bench and needed to continue to sing. I knew every song, the opening rifts literally sending chills down my spine. The whole show began with the song Reunited and to me it was more than a reunion, it was a reawakening to something amazing that for the first time I got to be a part of. When Something Corporate stopped touring, I hadn’t been in a place where I could go to shows. I heard people all around me talking about this time they saw Something Corporate and that time and I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of jealous I didn’t get more of an opportunity to get to know their live playing. But it’s fun. It’s fun when an entire crowd sings along. It’s fun when you go and the songs aren’t just songs, they are a part of you that has always existed but is now taking a different shape. It’s fun when you realize that everything you’ve loved about a band is still true even after four years, that all the songs that are special to you are special to the band as well. On the first encore, Andrew comes out and says something along the lines of, I hope you don’t mind but the song I’m about to play is kind of long. Immediately I knew they were playing my favorite song. Hearing Konstantine played live means more to me than I think I even knew at the time. I almost cried seeing the passion on his face for a song that has been such a huge part of my life. It was seriously a night that I won’t forget for a long time. The best way to sum it up is that it was absolutely amazing and I feel lucky that I was a part of it.

Thanks Nick for coming with me, I couldn’t think of a better person to have shared that experience with.

I am a butterfly, but you wouldn’t let me die. It’s me and the moon she said.

Your sex is on fire

Song of 8/28/2010: sex is on fire by kings of Leon. Tonight is the big night. :) I am so totally stoked. Sorry yesterday was an unbelievably short post. Nick got hit by a car when he was on his bike and taking care of him and helping him was more important than blogging. He’s for the most part okay, but we’ll know more later in the week. I didn’t want to completely let you down. Yesterdays video is kind a rip off of the bright eyes for first day of my life and they do it better there but it’s still adorable. And I haven’t watched today’s video yet but nick says it’s pretty good. He’s on my computer so when I can get on I’ll watch it. Although I find the song slightly annoying. But oh well. Hopefully I’ll be able to give a complete update tomorrow and if not then soon. In the meantime… SOMETHING CORPORATE TONIGHT!!!!!!

I’m through with the things that I do when I’m nervous

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Song of 8/26/2010: Everything is Alright by Motion City Soundtrack. Everything is alright. Good words to live by, especially when you feel as crazy as the people in the video do and as I sometimes do. This video is just really great. Although the quality might not be awesome the thought process behind the video is. Or at least it was until Nick explained how some of it was done. That was kind of a let down so I’m not going to share it with you for the sake of the magic. That’s right, it’s magic. Like a bad Selena Gomez cover. (and that joke might have just been for me). I love that this song talks all about neurotic people and neurotic tendencies, reminds me of my neurosis, but somehow still ends up making me smile. It’s just weirdly awesome like that. A good song is one that can remind you of reality but can also help you leave it for a little bit. That’s what I like about this song and this video. I may be crazy but everything is alright.
