Song of 12/21/2010: Cross my Heart by a Rocket Summer. This song gets stuck in my head so easily. I didn’t really watch the video but I realized the fact is this: I haven’t blogged this song sooner because there is no video for it. Saaaaad. Anyways, I really like this song. I like that it starts acoustically and sweet and gradually builds and swells until it’s completely rocking out. I think the song has good evolution and I can completely appreciate that. It’s actually an interesting love song. Yes things have sucked, but they are going to get better. How very honest about young love and how innocently optimistic. It’s nice.
Song of 12/20/2010: Librarians do Gaga. Maybe I’ve gone into the wrong profession. I love librarians and I love spoofs. This is great. Nothing is better than a funny song about libraries based on a real song about naughty things. It makes me laugh and I hope it makes you laugh too. “This keyword search it gives you way too many hits, Boolean limits pare things down to just what fits. Use the thesaurus to find subject terms that work Then in just one minute you’ll be through like Captain Kirk.”
Song of 12/19/2010: Start Wearing Purple by Gogol Bordello. I love this song. It’s bouncy and fun. It’s politically charged but still entertaining. I love it.
Song of 12/18/2010: What you don’t know by Jonatha Brooks. This song is the theme song for Joss Whedon’s latest show, Dollhouse. I didn’t like Dollhouse at first, because I didn’t watch it from the beginning and I got pretty confused every episode about what was going on and why. After starting from the beginning, I have a newfound appreciation for it. I think that Joss Whedon is a man who will never be truly appreciated. He has all of these great ideas, like Buffy and Firefly and Dollhouse. But they are significantly before they can be appreciated by mainstream culture. Buffy and Firefly were phenomenal to those who knew about them and loved them, but if Buffy took place now, it would be better appreciated. I think that Dollhouse will have it’s time. The strange overall story arc can’t be appreciated by people who aren’t willing to think outside of the box and eventually acknowledge the consequences. I think that this show is good at that and that Joss Whedon is good at that. Being bizarre not for the sake of being bizarre but for the ability to express ideas that are outside of the box. I like this song because I think it fits the show very well. It’s slow, but gradually gets faster, and the woman’s voice is incredibly seductive yet creepy. It explains the show very well, I think. I mean the lyrics are right on par with what the show is trying to convey (it was written specifically for the show) but the music itself is fascinatingly close as well. It’s overall a very good theme song for a very weird show.
song of 12/17/2010: The Ground Folds by Senses Fail. I’m feeling slightly… I don’t know. The major word to come to mind is stressed but this song is really sad so maybe I’m a little sad from all the stress. *sigh*. This song is really sad. It’s acoustic. This is apparently not a very good sounding version but the song is overall… pretty. and sad. I guess I’m just really grateful it’s the weekend. Sorry for the nonsensical words all put in a row. Here’s hoping to find hope.
Song of 12/16/2010: Hands Together by the New Pornographers. Several things. First of all: What happened to the old pornographers? Second of all: this video reaffirms that if I wanted to, I could be a dancing rock star ninja. Third of all: Best ending ever. The song itself is good, not great. It’s very repetitive and to be honest, I was so busy watching the video I didn’t exactly listen to the song. Worth the four minutes, definitely.
Song of 12/15/2010: For your entertainment by Adam Lambert. So watching this music video, I have two thoughts. Thought 1, what the heck is up with that snake?! Thought 2, and this kid went to my rivaling high school?! This is the first Adam Lambert song I’ve ever heard and I think had he not been on American Idol and gone to Mt Carmel High School it might be easier to give him an unbiased chance. But I went into this wanting to at least kind of like it and being kind of mostly weirded out. My mom and her best friend were in love with Adam Lambert during American Idol but as a music lover I could never get into that show. Overall, it’s a pop song. I’m not sure that there is anything else I can really say about it. But seriously… what is up with that snake?
Song of 12/14/2010: I shot the sheriff by bob marley. I heard a funny story on wait wait don’t tell me today. Apparently a sheriff shot the meaty part of his hand with a new gun. When asked what happened, the sheriff replied with “I shot the sheriff.” good answer, my friend, good answer.
song of 12/12/2010: Hey Soul Sister by Train. This is pretty. I haven’t quite decided if I like it or not but I definitely think it’s pretty. The music video has an interesting use of words. It’s a really pretty font, which caught my eye as it is in theme with the music, and I think it really works. I like that the lyrics are incorporated with the people and the buildings and are a character of the video themselves. It’s also a really pretty song. It has ukulele in it, which is a fascinating instrument. The instrument just sounds delicate, which brings a unique touch to a sweet song. Like I said, I don’t know if I like it. But I did hear today this song was one of the most downloaded songs off of iTunes so far this year so I thought I at least had to give it a try.
Song of 12/11/2010: All I want for Christmas Is you by Mariah Carey. Dear every annoying person or radio station that has gotten into the christmas cheer already this year. Not everyone cares. Not everyone finds your christmas music in stores and your brass quartet at the mall adorable. Some people are not in the holiday spirit and do not find you and your music enchanting or enlightening. No, it is not going to help put me in the spirit and no i will not buy anymore because you’re doing this but I will get angry and leave your presence very quickly.. At least that is the experience I had today and and will probably continue to have until the holiday season passes. I am not in the mood for christmas this year. Or any sort of happiness and cheer. Thank you universe for understanding. Please excuse my grumpiness if you are choosing to ignore this. I will snap at you. Screw you and your holiday cheer. If I can’t have you every day, christmas should be no different. Dammit.
PS: I am not as much of a scrooge as this seems. I’m just really not in the mood for these things this year. I hope everyone else has a joyous and wonderful holiday.
