… something about the day

Song of 12/10/2010:Hibi no neiro by Sour. So I can’t seem to find the translation for this video but it is one of the most epic things I have ever seen. This whole video was shot by webcam viewed in the 2010 disposable film festival. It is absolutely amazing and the end will make you smile. Even if you don’t know what the music is saying, the video shows a bunch of fans who care about each other and the band. GO WATCH IT!! :) trust me, you won’t be sorry.

Clair de Lune

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Song of 12/09/2010: Clair de Lune by Debussy. This music video is reminiscent of the opening number in Fantasia. It’s beautiful and a wonderful way to experience classical music. It brings the song to life with movement and color in a way that your brain does automatically when you listen to it and close your eyes. It’s calming and absolutely wonderful. This makes me sad for personal reasons. But overall it’s not a music video, it’s an experience.

It’s been a bad day, another bad day

grunge hamster

Song of 12/07/2010: Ride on Shooting Star by The Pillows. Nick picked out today’s song. It’s a shoutout to all of the anime nerds in the audience (although I’m not gonna lie, I’m not really one of them. But when all you see is pokemon and dragonball z growing up, your concept of anime is completely warped). I think this conversation pretty much sums up this song.

Me: Why do those teddy bears have mustaches?
Nick: Those aren’t teddy bears.
Me: Why do those hamsters have mustaches.
Nick: Because.

I’ll be everything you want and more

Song of 12/06/2010: I’ll be your everything by Youngstown. Does anyone else remember that seriously crappy Inspector Gadget movie that came out quite a few years ago? This song was from that movie and I LOVED it. I really love the whole inspector gadget franchise. I even wanted to name spock Mad Cat, but nick said it was an obscure reference no one would understand. The one thing I absolutely can not get over is how seriously everyone took this video and this song. Looking back on it, it’s kind of silly. It’s a cute song (ridiculously and secretly dirty), I just don’t know that it warrants all the serious faces this video is getting. Music videos, especially those pertaining to bad movies, should be enjoyed. Not ironically serious. It’s a childhood relic and I will always remember it as such. There used to be a time when I thought it was cool. I guess in a way it’s a good thing that I think this is more funny than I do cool. It’s a sign I’m growing up too. But no matter how old I am, this song and Inspector Gadget will always be fun and hold a special place in my heart.

Teenage suicide — don’t do it!

Song of 12/05/2010: teenage suicide, don’t do it by Big Fun. what’s your damage Heather? today I saw the 1989 classic The Heathers for the first time. It was silly and jawbreaker took way too much from it’s plot. I have to admit we turned it off about an hour in, in favor of playing paper Mario for the wii but I did give it the good old college try. This clip is an homage to the movie that brought me that wonderful phrase. :) plus it’s catchy and i bet you can listen to it without your head starting to groove along with the beat.

You get the best of both worlds

Song of 12/04/2010: Best of Both Worlds by Miley Cyrus. Dear Nicholas. You cannot sit in my car while I am driving, insult my driving and expect me to be a perfect passenger in your car when you freak me out with something you are doing. This is not Hannah Montanna. You cannot have the best of both worlds. Either we both criticize each other or no one does at all. KTHNXBAI <3

Happy Hannukah!

Song of 12/03/2010: Hannukah Song by Adam Sandler. What kind of Hannukah would it be if we didn’t take a moment to sit and laugh at ourselves. Oh Man. Thank you Adam Sandler for doing all the dirty work. HAPPY HANNUKAH EVERYONE!! :)

City Lights from my G6

Song of 12/02/2010: City Lights from My G6 by Mover Shaker. No video today. Instead I’m going to give a shoutout to Mover Shaker who friended me on tumblr today. In my experience, mashups are pretty hard to do. I don’t know personally anyone who can do them well (including myself, although I left my DJing days behind a looong time ago). Now maybe I know really crappy DJ’s but I can add one to the list of talented DJ’s. This is a song I can imagine being played in clubs, bass booming this song would actually be better than on my lowly computer speakers. While normally repetition drives me crazy, it really works for this song. I love that it’s for the most part in patterns of three. (Supersitious me finds it important but audible me finds it auditorily pleasing). I am definitely going to be downloading this CD when I get home. It’s definitely not quiet time music, but it’s really good. Check it out!

PS: I can’t seem to get the audio player to work so please go to the link and listen. :) I know it’s an extra step but it’s worth it.

Suddenly, suddenly I don’t feel so insecure

Song of 12/01/2010: The Hell Song by Sum 41. Now time for an oldie but goodie. Any one who can still play with dolls when they are making their second big CD (in 2002) should be idolized and revered. This music video makes me laugh. Well, I guess it wasn’t so much a laugh as it was a snicker, especially when the dolls party was getting broken up by the cops.. DOLL COPS! I guess the big point to all of this is at this age, these guys could act this way and do all of these things because that is age appropriate, I guess in a sense they didn’t know much better. That’s what makes this cute. It’s naive enough to be something they threw together in one evening because they were bored. I think it especially works with a song about becoming self-aware and finding your path through life. It’s.. a music video with naked barbies and kens. See how many celebrity dolls you can spot, there are quite a few. Thank you Sum 41 for being a silly in my otherwise stressful day.
